The electronic viewfinder in Nikon’s new mirrorless camera sets next-level standards of clarity and brightness

One of the most remarkable innovations (among many) in the new Nikon Z6III is the electronic viewfinder or EVF. The Z6III now boasts the brightest EVF of any mirrorless camera,* setting new standards in clarity and detail, lifelike motion and more colour than ever before.

The technology behind this leap for EVF’s means you can shoot confidently in brightly lit conditions and see the world in ways that make you feel as if it could be an optical viewfinder.

Brightness on a screen like an EVF or monitor is measured in nits, where one nit is equal to one candela (the SI unit of light intensity) per square metre. The EVF on the Z6III is an astounding 4,000 nits. Before, the brightest EVF in a camera was the Nikon Z9, with 3,000 nits.

The Z6III EVF also has a refresh rate of 120fps, giving you a smooth, real-time view of motion with almost zero latency.

Resolution of the EVF, for amazing levels of detail, is also increased to 5760k-dot, as compared to the 3690k-dot screen of the Z9.

The other great advance of the EVF in the Z6III is the adoption of the DCI-P3 colour gamut (another first in mirrorless cameras), which is the industry standard colour space for the movie industry. This means you get more available colours and a more accurate reproduction of delicate tones.

Critics have called the Nikon Z6III’s EVF “something of a masterpiece in its own right,” (Digital Camera World) with the EVF’s “extremely high brightness” a highlight of the new body (Computerbild.de). Test it for yourself and see the difference it could make to your creative output.
