The stats and specs behind Nikon’s new ‘bokeh monster’ lens

Mount: Nikon Z mount

Nikon’s Z mount, designed for mirrorless cameras, is much wider than the competition. The Z mount has enabled new ways to design better lenses, such as the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena.

Focal length: 135 mm

Beautiful for portraits, but useful for so much more, 135 mm has been a classic focal length for many photographers for decades. The legendary NIKKOR-Q 135mm f/2.8 was the bokeh lens of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Lens construction: 16 elements in 14 groups

Nikon engineers have used what’s called a convex concavo-convex construction for the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena to minimise vignetting. The multi-focusing system has two focusing groups behind the diaphragm blades, making the lens lighter, while also suppressing focus breathing.

Angle of view: 18° 10’ in FX (12° DX)

The tight framing of the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena makes it a perfect portrait lens, but also opens up creativity in landscapes and city shots.

Diaphragm blades: 11, with a rounded opening

The large number of blades and rounded opening help to create wonderful, round bokeh.

Minimum focus distance: 0.82 m

Get up close with incredible background bokeh, where the subject is always pin-sharp.

Dimensions and weight: diameter x length 98 x 139.5mm and weighing 995 g approx

With great balance, the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena will feel perfectly matched with your Nikon Z 8, Z 7II and other Nikon mirrorless cameras.
